Astrid Janson

Astrid Janson’s work as a production/set and costume designer has been seen across Canada, in Paris, N.Y, Amsterdam and Berlin She has designed theatre, opera, dance and film projects for the National Ballet, The Stratford Festival, Canadianstage, The National Arts Centre, Soulpepper and many films and specials for television. Recent credits include “Table For Two”(Obsidian) “Mad Madge”(Nightwood ) “The Cold War”(Videocabaret) Also “Otello” (Norrlands Opera: Sweden). She was the production designer of the award winning dance films, Nureyev, and Shadow Pleasures. For Videocabaret she has designed costumes for 13 of Michael Hollingsworth’s History plays. Significant exhibition work includes Expo ’86 and a Discovery Gallery for the ROM. Awards include 19 Dora Mavor Moore Awards, The Silver Ticket Award for Lifetime Achievement In The Theatre, a Toronto Drama Bench Award for Significant Contribution to Theatre and a 2004 Gemini Award (Production Design) In June 2016, Astrid received an Honorary Doctor of Letters from Wilfrid Laurier University.
