Tom Diamond is a renowned Stage Director, Dramaturg and Operatic Acting Coach. He has directed acclaimed productions for all the major Canadian opera companies, prominent opera companies in the United States as well as both on and off-Broadway. In September of 2021, he returned from the United States where his production of the Martin Luther King opera I DREAM premiered at Opera Carolina. This thru-composed opera’s story encompasses the final 36 hours in the life of Dr. King. Before the pandemic, his productions of Tchaikovsky’s EUGENE ONEGIN were seen in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Charlotte NC. He was the Resident Director/Dramaturge for Tapestry Opera in Toronto for a decade where he developed and staged many world premieres. His premiere production of OKSANA G was nominated for 7 Dora Mavor Moore Awards in 2019.  His productions are always noted for the quality of the performances that inhabit them. He is the Senior Acting Coach for the COC Ensemble Studio, a regular guest at L’Opera de Montreal’s Atelier Lyrique and on staff at the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glen Gould School where he recently staged Handel’s RINALDO. He also has taught/directed at Opera Schools, Young Artist Programmes and Conservatories throughout Canada and the United States.

 

Mr. Diamond is most often recognized from his role as Coach/Judge in the Gemini Award-winning series BATHROOM DIVAS.
