Zahra Badua is a multidisciplinary artist and devoted educator whose creative practice is deeply intertwined with the rhythms, stories, and spirit of the African continent and the Caribbean islands. Her work as a teacher is rooted in a belief that movement is both an archive and a living language—one that can teach, heal, and connect across generations and geographies. With extensive training in various West African and Caribbean dance forms, Zahra has performed, taught, and choreographed for numerous dance companies, schools, and events across the Greater Toronto Area, Kingston (Ontario), Montréal (Québec), Winnipeg (Manitoba), Pittsburg (Pennsylvania), and Memphis (Tennessee). Her work is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the vibrant traditions and histories of African diasporic dance. Through ZahraMoves, her educational and performance-based platform, Zahra crafts experiences that transcend the studio. Her classes are immersive journeys into the history, technique, and soul of Afro-Diasporic dance. Zahra works for dance Immersion – a black-led non-profit organization that produces, promotes, and supports dancers and dances of the African Diaspora as their Production and Engagement Coordinator. Her artistry flows seamlessly into her work behind the scenes as rehearsal director for Esie Mensah Creations and as a production and stage management apprentice at the National Arts Centre (N.A.C.). These roles expand her understanding of performance as a layered, collaborative craft. At the heart of Zahra’s practice is a commitment to helping others live their best life through dance.
