We are currently seeking submissions, to be directed to the Walrus Foundation offices in Toronto.
The competition is designed to showcase first-time Canadian novelists.
Professional book publishers may submit novels for the competition. Our head judge will select three to six award finalists from the submitted novels that meet the eligibility requirements and otherwise comply with the competition rules. The finalists will be announced in April 2017.
A panel of three judges, who will be announced in the coming weeks, will review the selected finalists’ novels on the basis of their literary quality, and they will select the award winner. The winner will be announced on May 25, 2017 at the award ceremony in Toronto, which will be attended by the city’s literary elite.
The deadline for novels published between April 1, 2016—December 31, 2016 is November 30, 2016. The deadline for novels published between January 1, 2017—March 31, 2017 is January 31, 2017.
There is no purchase necessary to enter. Authors must be Canadian citizens (regardless of residency) or permanent residents of Canada, 18 or older. Entries must be submitted by the author’s professional book publisher according to the dates as stated in the rules. It is recommended that novels be submitted for consideration as early as possible to allow adequate time for judging. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
Full competition rules and instructions on how to submit a novel can be found here, but feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.
