Equity Showcase Artistic and Executive Director, Kevin McCormick and the Cayle Committee, chaired by Genna du Plessis, and the committee of Dwight McFee, Lisa Baylin, David Gale, Alexa Carroll, and Jeff Saunders are proud to announce the 7th Annual Cayle Chernin Awards to be held at The Heliconian Hall, Yorkville on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 7:30 pm.

Established in 2012 to honour the life and work of actor, documentary filmmaker, writer, teacher and mentor Cayle Chernin (1947 – 2011). The Cayle Chernin Awards are presented to emerging or transitioning female artists to assist in the creation, development or production of a new work. The Cayle Chernin Memorial Fund are very proud of the past recipients of the CCA’s: Collette Micks (M), Susanna Fournier (T), Fenulla Jiwani (M), Melissa D’Agostino (M), Audrey Dwyer (T), Jani Lauzon (M), Andrea Scott (T), Jillian Rees-Brown (M), Ronit Rubenstein (T), Ruth Goodwin (T), Annie Bradley (M).

The 2018 CCA Media Arts Production Award and the CCA Theatre Production Award each comprise:

• $2000.00 Cash Prize

• access to a respected paid Industry Mentor through CSARN (Canadian Senior Artists Resource Network), including $1,500 in approved expenses incurred by the artist during the mentorship.

• in-kind industry services, TBD

About Cayle… 

Cayle Chernin’s professional journey began co-starring in Don Shebib's 1969 classic film Goin' Down the Road and came to a close with Mr. Shebib’s acclaimed sequel

Down the Road Again, 40 years later. Ms. Chernin was loved for her generosity, imagination, perseverance, talent and her welcoming smile. Cayle was valued for her commitment to women's issues, serving as an elected councillor on the board of ACTRA Toronto, as co-chair of the ACTRA Toronto Women’s Committee (TAWC) and on the board of Equity Showcase Theatre until her passing in February 2011.

Cayle Chernin’s career spanned four decades in film and on stage, developing new works and encouraging young artists. An overview of her career can be accessed at
