Together, Kevin McCormick (Equity Showcase Executive and Artistic Director), Dwight McFee (Founder of the Cayle Chernin Fund), and CSARN (Canadian Senior Artists’ Resource Network), are thrilled to announce that submissions are open for the 9th Annual Cayle Chernin Awards in Theatre and Media Arts Development.

The Cayle Chernin Awards are presented to emerging or discipline transitioning female artists to assist in the creation of a new work. Applicants may submit to the Media Arts: Development category or the Theatre: Development category.

Both awards include:

  • $2000.00 Cash Prize
  • Access to a respected paid Industry Mentor through CSARN
  • $1,500 in approved expenses incurred by the artist during the mentorship

Please note that artists must be a member of a Canadian professional arts guild or union in order to apply.

The award recipients will be announced at a salon honouring all finalists and celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Equity Showcase at the Heliconian Hall on Thursday May 14, 2020.

Our History & Past Winners
Established in 2012 to honour the life and work of actor, documentary filmmaker, writer, teacher and mentor Cayle Chernin (1947 – 2011), they have become one of the largest awards Ontario, having provided over $110,000 in cash, goods and services to empower women in the performing arts. The Cayle Chernin Memorial Fund are very proud of the past Cayle Award recipients: Collette Micks (Media Arts), Susanna Fournier (Theatre), Fenulla Jiwani (M), Melissa D’Agostino (M), Audrey Dwyer (T), Jani Lauzon (M), Andrea Scott (T), Jillian Rees-Brown (M), Ronit Rubenstein (T), Ruth Goodwin (T), Annie Bradley (M), Briana Brown (T), Shannon Fewster (M), Sonia Gemmiti (M), Jenna Harris (T), Tracey Hoyt (T), Helen Juvonen (M). We are grateful for the support past, present and future from our donors, sponsors and businesses particularly Robin Pascoe, AFBS, William F.
