The Canada Council invites people in the performing arts community to apply to be part of a council led delegation to the Abidjan Market for Performing Arts (MASA) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, where Canada will be the guest country from March 7 to 14, 2020. The objective of the delegation is to support artists and arts professionals in:  

  • accessing opportunities and developing international markets
  • developing the capacity to engage in international activities 
  • fostering reciprocal partnerships and exchanges

MASA is Africa’s largest performing arts market, taking place every two years in Abidjan. It brings together artists from Africa and elsewhere in the world with a view to: 

  • supporting creativity and high-quality productions
  • facilitating the movement of artists and their works within Africa and throughout the world
  • training artists and key professionals in the production field
  • promoting African performing arts.

Deadline: January 20, 2020

Grant amount: Up to $4,500 to cover airfare, accommodation and per diems.

Who can apply? 
This opportunity is open to the following professionals in the performing arts (dance, Deaf & Disability arts, Indigenous arts, inter-arts, multidisciplinary arts, music and theatre): 

  • arts professionals
  • agents and managers
  • artistic organizations

Applicants must demonstrate significant commitment to and/or experience in working with African artists and/or engaging with African markets.
