Hamletmachine Phase 2: Performance Think Tank

Looking for Emerging Artists of any and all disciplines (theatre, dance, spoken word, music, sound, visual art, technology, design…) who are interested in the creation and performance of new theatrical work to be part of Phase 2: Performance Think Tank, an exploratory process through which to investigate Heiner Müller’s Hamletmachine (see link to the script below). On the heels of Phase 1: A Dramaturgical Think Tank that recently took place from January to March, this Performance Think Tank is the next stage of a larger devised process that will culminate in a full-length, inter-disciplinary production of the work in 2018.

Led by Michael Reinhart and Jenna Harris, members of the Performance Think Tank will meet once a week during the summer in a build-up to a 4-day intensive to deconstruct this text while exploring imagery, themes, and creating new offerings to imagine a Hamletmachine, not the Hamletmachine, but a new, particular and unique theatrical object that engages with our current peculiar age.

Sound interesting to you but you’ve never done anything like this before?
Don’t be shy - we want to hear from you!

Dates of the Performance Think Tank:
Wednesdays 6-10pm on June 7, 14; July 5, 12, 19, 26; August 2, 9, 16 with an intensive August 21-24 (afternoons/evenings with flexibility).

To apply please submit the following to by Monday, May 15th @ midnight:
• a resume or bio (and if you don’t have one, a little bit about yourself or a small sample of your work is perfect!).
• a short cover letter (a paragraph or two in the body of the email is just fine) telling us why this is of interest to you.

Those brought in for an audition/interview will be asked to bring in a proposal (this could be a performance, a song, an object, an image, a lecture, a dance, etc…it is up to your interpretation) that engages somehow with an element of Hamletmachine. The parameters of the proposal are that it can be no more than 5 minutes in length and in must be able to fit through the door.

The presentation of your proposal will be coupled with a short interview, so we can get to know you. Audition/interviews will be Monday, May 29th.

Here is a link to the complete script (correct, it is only 8 pages long!):
If you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to email!
