Application Deadline Monday, January 2, 2019

Theatre Direct and the Forward March Festival invite womxn, non-binary, genderqueer and/or gender non-conforming artists 20-30 years of age to respond to the prompt: A LETTER TO MY YOUNGER SELF. The chosen curated responses will be featured during the first Forward March Festival, a festival of new works by early career female-identified playwrights which will engage both school groups and the general public from March 4 -10, 2019 at the Redwood Theatre in Toronto's East End.

We want you to write to your teenage self!

Travel back in time to a threshold moment, an unforgettable event, a fateful decision, a joyous chapter of love or friendship, a heartbreak, a terrifying night of exhilarating risk, or life-altering incident - what wisdom, warning, urges, appeals, or insights would you offer to your younger self?

Writing can take the form of monologue or poetry/spoken word. The selected pieces will be read/performed within the festival and published in the festival programme.

Writing can be sent via email as a PDF file. We request that you send the following information within your submission:

❏ Your Artistic Response
❏ Your Full Name and Pronouns
❏ Contact Information (email and phone number)
❏ A Bio (250 words or less)
❏ Indicate whether you prefer to read/perform your work or if you would like to authorize another artist to do so.
❏ Please identify any accommodations you require in order to participate/perform (i.e. wheelchair access, ASL interpretation, audio description, etc.).
❏ Your availability from February 28 -March 10, 2019

Submissions will be selected by a jury of youth ages 14 -18 years old. Up to 10 works will be selected, with artists receiving an honorarium.
Submissions can be sent by email to until 11:59pm on Monday, January 2, 2019.

**Please include your full name and “Letter to My Younger Self Submission” in the subject of your email.
