Deadline: Phase One - October 2nd, 2020

Calling all theatre artists who are writers or want to write.

With theatres shut down, we want to help artists that are inclined to use this time away from performing to write a play.

We know applications suck! We’ve written our share and hate to put others through it as well. Therefore, we tried to create a process that will be as painless as possible and take up as little of your time as possible. Phase one of the application is only one page and if you get invited to phase two you’ll be paid a micro-grant to complete it.

Although our resources are limited right now, we know that this is a time when theatre artists need support the most and may have time to write that play they have been thinking about for years but haven’t got around to yet. So, we are providing micro-grants and micro-commissions through the program this year with the intention of increasing the commissions in the following years.

This new program is open to any and all theatre artists who are interested in playwriting, including new and experienced writers.

In the first phase of the application, applicants are asked to send us a one-page submission telling us about themselves and the play they would like to write. The structure and information you wish to provide is up to you, but it must be completed in one page. A select number of one-page submissions will be chosen and those artists will be given a $150 micro-grant to complete the second and final phase of the application process.  From the phase two applications, a select number of artists will be awarded a micro-commission of $1,000 to write a first draft of their play. In addition to this they will also receive mentorship and dramaturgical support throughout the writing process.

The deadline for Phase One is October 2nd, 2020.
