Open Heart Productions is seeking VOLUNTEER submissions from performers of all types who are interested in performing at a fundraiser variety show for our 2020 season on April 15th at Buddies In Bad Times Theatre (Cabaret space).
Submissions encouraged include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Monologues OR short scenes for 2 to 3 actors by 2SLBGTQIA+ playwrights, including original unpublished work;
- Poetry/spoken-word by 2SLBGTQIA+ artists, including original unpublished work;
- Small musical acts (2 to 3 pieces, no extremely powerful sound equipment);
- Drag/gender performers;
- Circus acts which do not include fire or aerial stunts;
- Stand-up comedy;
- Any other type of performance you have been seeking a space/event to bring to life!
HOW TO SUBMIT:
Step 1: Complete the Google Form located here -> https://forms.gle/MuzyoJvLHQLhsCto9
Step 2: Send us a video of the piece you wish to perform. If it’s a work in progress, feel free to simply walk us through what you have so far (concept, costume, rough choreography, etc).
Alternatively, for those who would prefer to audition in person, we will be holding auditions at the Commons Studio, 587a College Street, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 29th.
Please note that the Commons Studio entrance has a somewhat steep flight of stairs. If this does not meet your accessibility needs, you may wish to submit your audition by video. See below for performance venue accessibility info.

We strongly encourage submissions from 2SLBGTQIA+ and IBPOC performers. We also welcome submissions from all performers regardless of age, gender, racial identity, ability, body type, or experience level.
Please note that Buddies In Bad Times Theatre prohibits the use of fire or pyrotechnics of any kind, as well as any substance that may stick to or damage the flooring in the space (e.g. glitter, stage blood, paint, etc.).
ACCESSIBILITY INFO: Buddies In Bad Times Theatre has a ramp into the building as well as a ramp into the cabaret space. There are 2-3 stairs leading up to the cabaret stage and 1 flight of stairs up into the balcony. Washrooms are gender-neutral and located downstairs. An elevator is available for those who need it to access the washrooms. Chairs and small tables will be available in the balcony and in the area nearest the stage, with plenty of open space near the bar and between the chairs/tables on the main floor. For the safety of those with seizure disorders or sensory concerns, Open Heart Productions discourages the use of strobe lights for this event.
