RootReach is a 31-day solo-collective residency that integrates three core principles; discipline, wellness, and creation as a model for deepening your artistic practice and challenging the perspective of solo devising.

Through one-on-one and collective approaches, each artist/creator will work on developing a sourcebook as well creating a solo performative piece that explores the themes of justice, identity, environment and/or displacement. The piece will be site-specific and approx.10-15 minutes in length.

Residency takes place from August 7- September 9 (First weekend session begins August 12)

How it all works!

RootReach offers a unique residency designed to allow the artist/creator the freedom to work between two places; my home and their home. This residency model gives the artist/creator the opportunity to develop and work on their own time while still committing to weekend sessions.

What’s included!

Each artist/creator will be given a bed in a shared sleeping space with a bathroom. Meals will be provided and we will all take turns cooking and cleaning. The artist will be working in a solo-collective triad. The triad system for solo performance emerges from The Anitafrika Sorplusi Method; an intersectional self-actualization framework used by artists and instigators, originated by one of my mentors, D’bi Young Anitafrika.  This artistic/pedagogical model, has proven to be a rich source of inspiration and has provided an important creative foundation for a new generation of emerging performing artists.

The cost of the residency is $600.00 The cost covers: food, lodging and facilitation.

Submission requirements!

We encourage artist/creators from all over the GTA to submit, with a focus on artist/creators who live on the peripheries of the city (Scarborough, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Aurora, etc.) as well as artist/creators who identify as BIPOC and LGBTQ2S.

Each artist/creator is asked to submit a 500-word proposal outlining who they are, where they live, what disciplines they work in and the idea or question they would like to investigate. Feel free to include images, text or sound that supports your submission.

The deadline for submissions is July 4 at 11:59pm.
