Deadline: October 30, 2020
For the last 35 years, Scaroborough Arts has worked with artists and community members to produce the Annual Juried Exhibition, a showcase of visual artworks in response to a theme. For Scarborough Arts’ 35th Annual Juried Exhibition, artists are invited to submit works in painting, illustration, photography, sculpture, printmaking, video, and installation that respond to the theme, "Beloved Community". Selected winners and artwork will get the opportunity to be featured in the 2020 edition of our Big Art Book (check out our last publication here)!
This year's theme is based on the work of bell hooks around community care: “beloved community is formed not by the eradication of difference but by its affirmation, by each for us claiming the identities and cultural legacies that share who we are and how we live in the world.”
Through the example of “Beloved Community,” we are called to personal accountability in achieving the collective goal of wellbeing for all. In thinking about this theme and quote, we invite artists to consider how art acts as a mechanism for collective care through individual responsibility.
Our 35th Annual Juried Exhibition will take place from November 29th-December 17th at Cedar Ridge Creative Centre. There will also be an online component this year in response to the pandemic. Cedar Ridge Creative Centre, Scarborough Arts, and the City of Toronto will be working collaboratively to ensure the event meets COVID-19 safety protocols.
