Deadline: December 1, 2020
In place of the 14th annual Next Stage Theatre Festival, Toronto Fringe will be presenting The Next Stage Community Booster. This four-day event will be a boost of energy, ideas, creativity, and friendship for those enduring an isolated pandemic winter.
We will feature digital performances from acclaimed indie artists, livestreamed conversations on urgent topics, online workshops that focus on mental health and self-care, and (if permitted by public health) socially distanced outdoor gatherings for small groups.
The event will take place from January 21 – 24, 2021 online at fringetoronto.com and potentially with limited capacity outdoors. More programming details will be announced in December.
We are so pleased to be opening up the following two calls for artists. When we had to cancel the 2021 Next Stage Theatre Festival back in the spring, we were devastated that it would prohibit Fringe artists from presenting new work in 2021.
Now, with the support of two long-time partners (Steam Whistle Brewing and TO Live) we are happy to announce that artists will have the chance to make a little extra cash and present some new work this winter.
Six collectives (featuring ensembles of 2 to 4 performers) will be selected to create a 5 - 10 minute piece that will be filmed on the stage at the Jane Mallett Theatre, then streamed online in January.
Deadline: December 1 at 12pm.
Solo artists may apply to become one of our Steam Whistle Storytellers, to present a 10-15 minute performance that will be edited together into an at-home package for viewers, with a possible in-person event in January if public health allows. Deadline: December 1 at 12pm.
