Acting Up Stage Company is excited to continue the Syd & Shirley Banks Prize for Emerging Musical Theatre Artists in 2016/2017.
The Syd and Shirley Banks Prize for Emerging Musical Theatre Artists generously provides two musical theatre artists the opportunity to advance their careers through financial assistance, mentorship and increased exposure. This opportunity is open to emerging musical theatre artists under 30 years of age who are under-exposed in Toronto and its surrounding areas through an open audition process.
Two emerging artists will be awarded the prize, each receiving:
1. A $1,000 cash prize.
2. A cabaret created by and starring both winners.
3. A featured role in our UnCovered: Queen & Bowie concert.
Each year Acting Up Stage Company produces a concert that pays tribute to a non-musical theatre artist by re-imagining their songs. The two Syd & Shirley Banks Prize winners will have the opportunity to perform in the concert, alongside Canada's finest musical theatre artists. UnCovered will take place November 1-3 2016 at Koerner Hall.
4. Mentorship with industry experts throughout the 2016/17 season.
The selected participants will be invited to observe rehearsals and receive mentorship from artists appearing in the season. Winners will also receive behind-the-scenes access and can use Acting Up Stage Company’s resources to meet with other industry professionals to learn more about creative processes, tailored specifically to the winners’ interests.
