Toronto, ON (June 29, 2026) – The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) today announced that the 2026 Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award went to The Drowsy Chaperone from Shifting Ground Collective. This award, sponsored by Now Toronto, is voted on by the public from the year’s list of Outstanding Production nominees, or by writing in their own favourite show. The Drowsy Chaperone was also nominated this year for three Dora Awards in the Musical Theatre Division.

Previous winners of this award include Come From Away, ‘da Kink in My Hair, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Woking Phoenix.

Founded in the spring of 2022, Shifting Ground Collective is Toronto’s home for emerging musical theatre talent. Hailed as a “company to watch” Shifting Ground is known for ambitious projects spotlighting the future generation of the city’s musical theatre stars.
