DEADLINE TO APPLY: March 29, 2021

As part of its transformational work, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre seeks volunteers to serve on its Board of Directors.

In Summer 2020, the Board initiated an organizational review utilizing an anti-oppression lens (please have a look at the Board’s most recent statement to the community, which describes the work we are doing). With the development of a community advisory committee; a commitment to diverse representation and more robust community consultation; and mindful of our commitment to anti-oppressive governance, we strongly encourage applications from people who identify as: Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, Two-Spirit, living with disabilities, trans, migrants, arts workers, activists, feminists, youth*, and/or elders, with experience in one or more of the following:

Alternative models of board governance
Art creation and/or management
Community outreach
Human resources
Marketing and communications
Strategic planning
*The Board also has a dedicated youth (under 30) position.

The Board is charged with ensuring that Buddies in Bad Times Theatre is a thriving, vital theatre company, both in its internal operations and in its external accountability to the broader community, in ways that are inclusive, anti-oppressive, and financially and culturally sustainable.

Board responsibilities include: hiring and evaluating both the Artistic Director and the Managing Director; oversight of the annual season’s activities; approving the annual budget and providing financial oversight; overseeing Buddies’ organizational transformation process and ameliorating systemic conditions of inequity; and developing and implementing the theatre’s strategic plan.

The Board is made up of committed volunteers with a passion for Buddies or for theatre in general, who bring their skills, knowledge, and experiences to the table for the benefit of the theatre and its community. Workload ranges from 5-10 hours per month, and the Board makes every effort to recognize individual capacity and ability. The Board is committed to ongoing facilitated Board education around anti-racism, anti-oppression, decolonization, and trauma.
