Next Class in the 2018/19 series: Tues., Feb. 12, 2019, 6:30PM – 8:30PM.
The February class will focus on jaw, tongue, soft palate work. Many people experience vocal blocks in this space. If these blocks are not addressed, the vibrations of the voice can not flow directly from the mouth, and instead get re-directed to release through other areas like the nose or chest. This results in a less expressive voice.
With gentle attention over time, these blocks can be eased. Once addressed, the actor not only becomes more expressive and wide open when they need to be, but can now also consciously choose to inhabit a character with a vocal peculiarity, such as nasality or exaggerated chest resonance.
A free voice is an expressive voice and a transformative voice.
The same exercises that free our voices allow us more choices for characterization.
