Intrigued about Theatre of the Oppressed methodology and community engagement?
Interested in bringing Forum Theatre to diverse communities?
Mixed Company Theatre is bringing back their popular Forum Theatre workshops this June! THEATRE FOR ACTION is our week-long series of intensive workshops conducted by renowned Forum Theatre Creator and Artistic Director Simon Malbogat and Dora-nominated Playwright Luc Iogna.
A UNESCO-recognized educational tool for implementing social change, FORUM THEATRE (based on Theatre of the Oppressed pedagogy) is a community-focused, facilitated style of theatre designed to address social issues and inspire action for change. In Forum Theatre productions, professional artists and community members together create a universal story depicting a social issue of concern to the participating community. The community audience is then invited onto the stage to enact “an intervention” where they can either replace a character or suggest a change to the story for the better. Forum Theatre give communities the agency to develop their own grassroots solutions and the ability to envision the positive outcomes of creating social change.
Alongside our popular introductory courses ("Introduction to Forum Theatre" and "Masks of Manipulation"), this year we are pleased to offer a "PLAYWRITING for Forum Theatre 101" workshop with Dora-nominated Playwright Luc Iogna!
