Intimacy Tools for the Actor

This workshop will provide you with the tools to better understand the full scope of your job and how best to execute it. We will cover the topics of What’s considered “intimacy”

  • The role of Intimacy Directors and Coordinators
  • Looking at the actor’s tools for intimacy, as a performer, as a business person, as co-worker
  • Looking at tools for text work, with specific regard to scenes of intimacy
  • Language for describing choreography and touch
  • Voice and breath
  • Supporting your own workspace
  • Consent, boundaries and parameter

Participants can engage with the material in conversation throughout the event. A Google Meet link will be sent to you through Eventbrite. Closed captioning is available on this platform.

Sliding Scale Pricing
There are limited community tickets and discounted sliding scale tickets available for this event for individuals with financial restrictions. Tickets are first-come first-serve, but please be mindful. Union Discount of 20% for UBCP/ACTRA as well as access to sliding scale.

About the Facilitator:
Siobhan Richardson is a pioneer voice in Intimacy in Performance and was a co-founder of Intimacy Directors International. She is the first certified Intimacy Director in Canada, co-founder of Intimacy Directors International, was the first Intimacy Coordinator to be hired under an ACTRA Intimacy Coordinator contract and the first ACTRA Intimacy Coordinator contract at Ubisoft. She has been teaching Intimacy extensively across Canada over the last three years, travelling from Vancouver to Halifax to teach this work, and into Europe, in professional and amateur settings, and in educational institutions. Her work as an Intimacy Director has appeared at the National Arts Centre, The Canadian Opera Company, The Shaw Festival, The Stratford Festival, and Soulpepper, to name a few, and at numerous Theatre Training Institutions across Canada.
