Join our special guests Daniel Wishes and Seri Yanai from the award winning Japanese puppetry company Mochinosha for a special evening workshop exploring shadow puppetry.
Mochinosha was founded in 2012 by Canadian artist Daniel Wishes and Japanese artist Seri Yanai. The two met while studying puppetry together at the London School of Puppetry in the in the United Kingdom. Mochinosha creates and performs with shadow puppetry, marionettes, rod puppets and glove puppets. Together they have created over a dozen shows for both adults and children and performed across Canada, Japan and the UK and won awards for their work from the Aichi Puppetry Centre and the Suginami Theatre Festival in Japan as well as the the Victoria Fringe Festival.
During this informative three hour session Daniel and Seri will be discussing the history of their company, the techniques and tools that they use to create shadow puppetry, and their personal philosophy on how to create a great shadow performance. They will also be leading participants in a session where everyone will experiment with making and performing with their own shadow puppets.
All necessary tools and materials will be provided. Advance registration is required!
