Canadian Stage is pleased to offer a complimentary workshop for professional dancers and choreographers, taught by renowned South African choreographer Luyanda Sidiya. Sidiya is the creator of Dominion which plays April 22-25 at the Bluma Appel Theatre as part of Spotlight South Africa.
Luyanda Sidiya has performed internationally, from Botswana to the USA to Europe. He taught African dance and choreography at Bennington College in Vermont, USA before joining the ACE Dance and Music Company in the UK, first as dancer and then as rehearsal director. Sidiya co-founded Luthando Arts Academy in Sebokeng, South Africa, and is currently the artistic director at Vuyani Dance Company in Johannesburg. A standout moment for Sidiya was serving as dance captain for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Opening Concert.
Renowned choreographer Luyanda Sidiya presents a dance program inspired by the deep tribal energy he senses from his land and people. Unleashed, it has the potential to transform the environment and all within it, with either positive or negative implications.
