Tanisha Taitt – Director, Actor, Playwright, Teacher, Activist
Join us this August for the fourth session in this exciting new training series, as we explore how we perform the works of the great August Wilson, while illuminating the text through historical/sociopolitical discourse. The Training Group aims to integrate advanced text work while engaging participants in active dialogue focusing on exploring the actor’s process. We are honoured to continue the series under the guidance of one of Toronto’s leading director/actor/playwright/teacher/activists Tanisha Taitt.
This intensive 12 hour Training Group will be set up over three workshop sessions at the end of August.
About the Session:
August In August is an ode to the most venerable African-American playwright of all time and one of the theatre’s greatest commentative poets, the late August Wilson. This contemporary Scene Study course will dive headlong into three breathtaking Wilson literary and theatrical works – Pulitzer Prize winners The Piano Lesson and Fences, as well as his swan song Radio Golf – and will illuminate them through historical/sociopolitical discourse and boundary-breaking, exploratory performance. During the final session, each participant will perform in a two-hander scene excerpt.
One need not be familiar with Wilson’s catalogue to enrol… curiosity and a love of theatre is enough! August In August is a perfect introduction to those new to his work, as well as to the well-versed who wish to rediscover these timeless plays anew.
