New year, new session of The Howland Company’s newest initiative – The Training Group - an opportunity for actors, both emerging and established, to explore seminal plays and the actor’s craft in an intimate training group setting guided by one of Toronto’s leading theatre artists.
Join us this March for the third session in this exciting new training series, as we explore how we perform Shakespeare’s text by looking to the verse. The Training Group aims to integrate advanced classical text work while engaging participants in active dialogue focusing on exploring the actor’s process. We are honoured to continue the series under the guidance of one of the country’s leading classical stage actors and teachers Ben Carlson.
This intensive 12 hour Training Group will be set up over three Sunday workshop sessions in the month of March.
About the Session:
“The class will focus on playing Shakespeare, specifically the speaking of his text, including but not limited to dialogue, monologue, sonnets and scenes… with an eye towards how Shakespeare gives clues to the discovery of the characters and their actions. The goal is to bring Shakespeare to life for the actor, finding clarity and power in the verse while remaining free to play.”
