D’Arcy Smith, an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati, will be guest teaching a General American Voice Workshop on Wednesday November 22, 6-10pm at The Dirt Underneath Actors' Space at 636 Pape Ave.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Sound too Canadian? How do you know? General American is a necessity accent for the Canadian actor, but how do you know if you sound too Canadian?
Many Canadian actors don’t know how their speech differs from their US counterparts. Your ability to shift key sounds and pronunciation can not only affect your performance, but your ability to get the job. In this intensive workshop with a US dialect coach, you will learn the key sounds to watch out for, vocal/physical patterns, inflection and rhythmic patterns as well.
Go beyond the usual “out and about” sound changes and really learn how to perfect your General American Accent.
This workshop will focus on gaining skill in the accent and individual instruction. Participants should be prepared with a short monologue or text appropriate for the accent. Resources for how to practice will be provided to all participants.
