This creative writing workshop focuses on dramatic text from a movement-based perspective where we will play, improvise and explore writing text ‘on our feet’.

Inspired by the pedagogy of Ecole Jacques Lecoq, Coleen MacPherson, writer and theatre maker, will lead the workshop with the goal of inspiring writers, theatre makers and creative types to capture the world in writing.

This workshop is open to professionals who are interested in a physical theatre approach to playwriting.

COLEEN SHIRIN MACPHERSON is a Canadian-born international theatre artist and
Artistic Director of Open Heart Surgery Theatre. She trained at movement school, Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris and has toured work in Canada, Egypt, USA, France, England, Spain and China. Most recently Coleen directed This Is Why We Live (Plateau 31, Paris, France and Theatre Centre in Toronto). She worked alongside renowned Canadian theatre director, Daniel Brooks on Necessary Angel’s Civility and Divisadero. She has adapted The Hearing Trumpet by Leonora Carrington for Dark Matters Theatre, which had its premiere at the Brighton Fringe. Coleen took part in the Arcola Theatres’ Writers’ Group in the UK, works with international touring theatre company, Wet Picnic and has toured across France and England in Time for Tea, The Birthday Party and Picnic on the Bridge. Coleen translated Pylade by Pier Paolo Pasolini with Adam Paolozza, which recently premiered on Off-Broadway at La MAMA by The Great Jones Repertory Company. She has developed and toured pocket story installations with Rachel Ellison and The Pocketology Collective and her sound recordings with this collective,e have appeared on Here and Now (CBC) and on the BBC in Winchester. In Canada Coleen has worked with Why Not Theatre, Theatre Smith-Gilmour, MT Space, Fixt Point, Bad New Days, The Children’s Peace Theatre, Jumblies Theatre, Expect Theatre and more. In 2014 her play, First Draft had a sold out run at the Camden People’s Theatre and then went on to the Mimetic Festival (The Vaults) in London, UK. Most recently First Draft toured to Fallaki Theater in Cairo with an all-Egyptian cast (StudioZAT).
