Allen MacInnis started his career when Canadian theatre was burgeoning, which offered him wide-ranging work across Canada in contemporary theatre, new plays, musicals, classics, works by Indigenous artists, and theatre for young audiences. He served as Artistic Associate of Alberta Theatre Projects when its long running new play festival was founded. In his seven years as Artistic Director of Prairie Theatre Exchange, he broadened the company’s programming and toured several works in Canada and abroad. For twenty years, Allen led the artistic vision Young People’s Theatre, exploring an enormous range of theatrical forms for the best of all audiences, young people.

The TAPA Silver Ticket Award is bestowed upon an individual who has excelled in their career while also nurturing the development of Canadian theatre. It entitles the recipient to a lifetime of theatre tickets to any TAPA member company production. At the 43rd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards Show Ceremony on June 27, 2023, it was presented to Allen MacInnis. MacInnis has had remarkable impact as a visionary artist, compelling educator and inspiring leader most notably in the theatre for young audiences community. For over 40 years MacInnis’s passion and commitment to the community has inspired generations.
