Soulpepper’s annual Queer Youth Cabaret is back! On June 20 and 21, eight selected artists will perform short original solo pieces for live audiences (narrative-based, movement, music/song, drag, comedy, etc.) facilitated and directed by our Academy Graduate Will Dao. Leading up to the final showcase, they will receive mentorship and support from established queer artists and arts educators. In addition, each artist will receive a $500 honorarium for their participation in the program.  

Queer Youth Cabaret is an opportunity for 2SLGBTQI+ artists in the early stages of their career to develop their work through a creation unit that includes dramaturgy and mentorship. 

Deadline to apply: Sunday, April 20 at 11:59 PM 

Soulpepper is looking for participants who: 

  • Are emerging artists who self-identify as Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Trans, Queer, Non-Binary, Intersex, as well as all other identities across the sexuality and gender continuum 
  • Are 30 years old and under, though this guideline is not absolute 
  • Will commit to all rehearsal and workshop dates  

Program Dates: 

  • Workshops and rehearsals will be held on: Mondays or Tuesdays starting May 12 (no workshop on May 19). Specific dates and times will be decided based on performer availability. 
  • Tech week: June 17 – 19 
  • Public performances: June 20 and June 21 at 8:00 PM
