Are you looking to engage with the Toronto dance community this summer? Join our Festival team as a Dance Steward!
The dance: made in/fait au canada Festival is looking for emerging artists who are interested in advocating and networking with our national dance community. Our 2025 Edition will run from August 21st – 24th, 2025 featuring artists from Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, & Halifax. Get the chance to see the latest in Canada’s contemporary dance.

DANCE STEWARDS ARE:
Interested in engaging with the dance community from across Canada.
Willing and able to be representatives of the dance: made in canada Festival, specifically engaging with our audiences during the week of the Festival.
Interested in meeting our Festival artists and team, and being exposed to the inner workings of a national-wide Festival.

An opportunity to create and perform a new choreographic work

In 2025, we are commissioning the Dance Stewards to collectively co-create and perform a 4 to 5-minute choreographic work for our WYSIWYG programme. The theme for this work is celebrating your generation and featuring your strengths and creativity as a dance collective. The work will run as part of the festival from August 21 to 24, 2025 (Sunday inclusive).

Dance Stewards selected for the program will receive an honorarium of $1,300/-

EXPECTATIONS:
You must be available in Toronto between May – August for the orientation sessions and the creation/rehearsals of the commissioned work.

This opportunity is open to Toronto-based individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • You must also be available in Toronto during the full week of the Festival (August 21st – 24th, 2025 ).
  • You should be available for at least fourteen (14) hours during the week of the Festival – this includes shadowing tech rehearsals, connecting with Festival artists for one-on-one chats, attending our Festival programming, attending Festival workshops free of charge.
  • Being a representative in the lobby of the Festival venue. This will be in addition to the tech and performances of your commissioned work.
  • Following the d:mic Festival, there will be a post-mortem session, that can either be attended in person or online.

One (1) orientation session: 2 hours
Two (2) professional development sessions: 3.5 hours (each) = 7 hours
Creation and Rehearsals for commissioned work: 20 hours
Tech Rehearsal for commissioned work: 1 hour
Two performances of commissioned work: 1 hour (each)
Festival Week: 14 hours
Post-mortem session: 2 hours
TOTAL: 48 hours
