Playwright
Language requirement: little Korean words spoken, mostly english
Age of actor: anyone in their 30s or older can play this role.
The Playwright is a tiger. A Korean woman, but not necessarily a grandma. She has lived a long life so she has seen so much and is so tired, but she has a responsibility to entertain and be informative to the audience. Especially in the first half, she can feel like a stand up comedian, a little laid back, easy, charming, but still warm.
Rachael
Language requirement: Fluent Korean and comfortable English
Age of actor: 20-30
Rachel immigrated to Canada at a later age. She is familiar with Korean customs and is comfortable with her cultural identity. Inconsistent longing for her hometown (life in Korea before coming to Canada). Stoic and casual in her delivery, almost sarcastic or cold, but not in a menacing way.
Joanna
Language requirement: Fluent English and comfortable Korean (but not a must)
Age of actor: 20-30
Korean-Canadian (bilingual). Joanna Respects customs but is not as familiar with them as Rachel is. She learned Korean in a Korean language school in Canada. When she speaks Korean she has an aloofness of someone who grew up in North America — but it’s not necessarily the case when she speaks English. She is outgoing and direct when she expresses herself.
Reaper
Language requirement: Fluent Korean. English skills are an asset (but not a must)
Age of actor: 30~40, any gender
Reaper who guides the dead to the afterlife. Has a “public servant” feeling: well-mannered but distant and tired. Does not really respect Canadian bureaucracy but holds up the Korean one. They have to appear like they care about the souls, but fatigue is always more prominent.
