Developed by a group of researchers involved in the (Re)Setting the Stage: The Past, Present, and Future of Casting Practices in Canada project, the Casting Canadian Theatre: Reflections on Change Survey aims to examine what, if anything, has changed since 2020.
In 2020 a global pandemic deeply affected the performing arts and theatre training platforms. The Black Lives Matter battle cry in June 2020 resounded around the world after the death of George Floyd at the hands of police brutality. The world, including the performing arts and theatre industries, had to reckon with systemic inequities and a historical exclusion of global majority artists. Many promises were made. Have they been kept? This is one of the questions underlying this survey.
We invite you to take 8-10 minutes to help provide critical data for a more extensive analysis of the current state of casting practices in Canada. We encourage you to share this survey with friends and colleagues as well.
The survey can be accessed here: https://yorku.questionpro.ca/t/AB3urkgZB3u5Cv
Deadline: June 30
