We are currently seeking to bring on board a highly motivated and detail-oriented Controller to oversee all financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance and strategic financial planning to support our mission.

  • Employment Type: Full-time, 35 hours per week
  • Compensation: $95,000 – $125,000 annual salary, plus a comprehensive benefits package

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, CRA regulations and funding agreements.
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger functions.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor cash flow, banking relationships, and investment activities.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Support grant reporting, donor stewardship, and fund accounting processes.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to provide financial insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Lead the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.
  • Maintain and improve financial policies, procedures and systems.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist in preparing government filings, including HST, T3010, and other regulatory reports.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies within the finance department.
  • Liaise with board members and finance committees, presenting financial reports and analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field – CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and regulatory compliance for NPOs.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems a strong plus
  • Experience managing restricted and unrestricted funding, grants, and donor reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience supervising accounting staff.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Non-Canadian applicants must have a valid employment Visa and/or proper documentation  authorizing their eligibility to work in Canada on a full-time, ongoing basis.
