We are currently looking to bring on board a passionate, organized and student-centered Education Coordinator, School Visits to support in the daily execution of School Visits programming.

Reporting to: Manager, School Visits

Type of Employment: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Compensation: $50,000-$55,000 annual salary, plus a comprehensive benefits package

Location: On site at our waterfront campus in downtown Toronto

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION

The Education Coordinator, School Visits plays a key role in delivering School Visits programs within the Performing Arts, Urban Studies and Visual Arts portfolios. The position is ideal for a dynamic educator with strong classroom management skills, a flexible teaching style and a passion for curriculum-aligned, inquiry-based learning to meet the needs of students and teachers. This role is responsible for leading the development, renewal and evaluation of all School Visits programs; this includes ensuring that the programs remain innovative, educationally relevant, and aligned with institutional goals. Other duties include managing the ordering and organization of supplies needed for the effective delivery of these programs, as well as supporting in the recruitment, onboarding, training and evaluation of School Visits educators.

DUTIES

  • Teach a variety of visual arts, performing arts and/or urban studies workshops to students, ranging in age from pre-kindergarten to adult learners. Visual Arts programs include clay, printmaking, textile artrs and mixed media.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure they meet the needs of students and teachers, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning.
  • Support daily venue inspections to ensure set-ups meet program-specific needs.
  • Within the Performing Arts portfolio, demonstrate proficiency in at least one discipline (drama, dance or music).
  • Teach in other performing arts disciplines, including Drama (Improv), Dance (Creative Movement, Primary Hip-Hop, Urban, Latin, Contemporary) and Music (Body Percussion).
  • Within the Urban Studies portfolio, teach onsite (Harbourfront Centre Discovery Walk, Sustainable Cities) and offsite (Kensington Market/Chinatown).
  • Coordinate all program documentation and teaching manipulatives for School Visits programs.
  • Provide superior customer service to visiting teachers and student groups.
  • Take the lead in program development, renewal and evaluation for School Visits programs keeping in mind current best practices in Arts Education and revisions to Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum documents.
  • Develop Special Programs which respond to gallery exhibitions, performances, festivals or external partner programming that may come up throughout the school year.
  • Review and develop Pre and Post Visit Packages for all School Visits programs.
  • Oversee supply management of all School Visits programs, including inventory, ordering and budget tracking.
  • Work with the School Visits team to ensure venue maximization through daily and weekly schedule meetings.
  • When required, communicate with visiting teachers via phone or email regarding specific details on upcoming bookings.
  • Support the Manager, School Visits in the recruitment, onboarding, training and yearly evaluation of Educators.
  • Support co-op students, interns and/or student teachers, including recruitment, training and mentorship.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary schooling within an education or art field, the ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience and/or leading workshops with children and youth in any formal or informal setting (school, gallery, museum, before/after school program, camp).
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Curriculum and program development experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one performing arts discipline (drama, dance or music).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to coordinate multiple activities and programs.
  • Able to stand for long period of time and lift various materials and equipment up to 40lbs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including an ability to handle potentially difficult situations with diplomacy.
  • Strong technological aptitude and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and related applications.
  • Bilingualism  (English – French) is considered an asset.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C are considered an asset.
  • As a condition of employment, a Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to Harbourfront Centre will be required of the successful candidate. The cost of this screening is to be covered by the incumbent.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Non-Canadian applicants must have a valid documentation authorizing their ability to work in Canada.
  • This role is based in Toronto. The candidate must be able to work on site at our lakeside campus.
