“Puzzles”, a family comedic drama, was featured at the 2022 Ottawa Fringe Festival and was been nominated for 4 Prix Rideau Awards, including Best New Creation, awarded two of the four noms. This narrative is an carefully unwoven mystery that explores a mother-daughter relationship shrouded in guilt and denial, the consequences of a past tragedy. Daughter Gwen returns home after a long absence to reveal new information about her sister’s disappearance.
[Mavis] – Female identifying: A woman of color, widowed, is in her late sixties, vibrant and stoic, former private school teacher, then headmistress, avid volunteer, now retired. She met Arthur late in life after losing her husband. He was a bright light for her after years of darkness.
[Arthur] – Male identifying: An Anglo-Saxon man in his late seventies, unpretentious, irreverent, which contradicts the usual arrogance associated with having been a successful businessman. His once full head of dark hair has given way given way to gray. He is a crossword puzzle aficionado, a peace maker.
[Gwen] – Female identifying: Mavis’ daughter, in her late thirties, thin with a slightly nervous demeanor. A recovering drug addict who has returned home to confront her mother about the disappearance of her sister and make sense of surfacing memories.
Producer is committed to diverse, inclusive casting in line with the playwright’s vision.
