Are you a sober theatre-maker in Toronto? Are you interested in being a part of a new indie theatre company? Do you have a passion for collaborative creation in safe, inclusive environments?

Calling ALL sober theatre creatives! Whether you’re a playwright, an actor, a designer, an educator, a puppeteer, a stage manager, or have a tough time defining your title, this is a place for you.

One Day Theatre Co is a new Toronto-based indie theatre company. This company is a sober-exclusive space – no matter where you are on (or how you define) your journey. There is a major lack in safe sober spaces for theatre creatives in the city (in fact, a quick Google search will tell you these spaces don’t really exist anywhere), and we all know how difficult it is to maintain sobriety while pursuing a career in the arts.

This is why I’ve created One Day, to allow theatre makers in the city a place of refuge where we can create art together without any of the baggage or anxiety that comes with being sober in the arts. What that art is and becomes will be up to us! Through collaborative creation, adaptation, and/or devising, while utilizing the skills and expertise of our team, I hope to create a piece that reflects us as a community. Whether we take an existing work and make it our own, or come up with something completely new! But more importantly, I hope to show other sober creatives that we exist and are thriving in the industry. Think of it as more of a community than a company.

I’m seeking collaborators to attend a meet and greet/collaboration session on the evening of March 30th.

If you are interested, please send your resume & a quick introduction to onedaytheatreco@gmail.com to arrange a zoom call.

A little bit about me:

My name is Iris (they/them) and I am a queer artist, educator, writer and stage manager based in Toronto. I am a graduate of the University of Windsor’s Drama in Education and Community program with a minor in Women & Gender Studies. I have a passion for youth theatre! I work with both Young Peoples Theatre and & Children’s Arts Theatre School, as well as various residencies around the city. I have a deep love for puppetry, mask work, spoken word and devised theater/collective collaboration (and I LOVE a multimedia piece). I hope to tell and amplify stories of queer, mad, and trans experiences. When I’m not in a theatre setting, you can catch me watching movies, doing many many puzzles, and reading an epic biography.

Recent select stage management credits: Girls Night Cabin Fever (Ghouls and Girls Theatre, Toronto Fringe); The Two Gentlemen of Verona (New Broods Productions); Long Live the Rainbow (Elderberry Productions), A Daring Debut (Antic Theatre), and immersive theatre projects Peter Pan and The Wendy Lady, and Tales of the Grotesque (White Mills Theatre Co).
