Part-time Artistic Director/General Manager

Contract length: 10 months per annum – 2-year commitment sought
Hours of work per week: Approx 15 hours/week
Start Date: August 18, 2025
Rate of pay: $ 24,000 (approx. $38/hr)
OVERVIEW:
Act 2 Studio Works Inc. (operating as act2studioWORKS), is a not-for-profit charitable entity incorporated in 2011. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Its main object is to provide adults aged 50+ extended programming and public performance opportunities to enhance the learning outcomes and skill development of ACT II STUDIO courses of the Chang School of Continuing Education, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU).
The Artistic Director/General Manager (AD/GM) is the principal link between the act2studioWORKS Board and the Program Manager, Programs for 50+ and Community Engagement at TMU. The AD/GM reports to the Board of Directors.
The AD/GM role balances artistic leadership with administrative responsibilities. It is deeply rooted in mentorship, volunteer and community engagement, and inclusivity.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As Artistic Director/General Manager you will:
– Advise and inspire the Board and members of act2studioWORKS in all aspects of extended programming and WORKS community life;
- Consult and collaborate on courses, faculty and production choices with the Program Manager, Programs for 50+ and Community Engagement;
- Oversee Productions to ensure a high quality of public performances;
- Oversee the general functioning of the Studio by monitoring WORKS’ financial health, volunteer engagement, committee effectiveness and membership retention and growth;
- Facilitate students taking class at ACT II STUDIO to practice their developing skills in WORKS productions, creative hubs and workshops;
- Help sustain and maintain membership by fostering inclusion in WORKS’ activities;
- Supervise (with the Board) the office administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated experience with and passion for working with older adults.
- Theatre arts background and experience.
- Strong organizational, time management, communication, administrative (including report preparation, scheduling, event coordination, budget administration) and interpersonal skills.
- Collaborative spirit and a patient, inspiring and supportive leadership style.
- Commitment to inclusivity, accessibility and lifelong learning in the arts.
- Ability to multi-task, self-start and strategize
- Experience teaching theatre arts and working in a non-profit organization would be an asset.
