dance: made in canada/fait au canada Festival (the “d:mic/fac Festival”) is the only Toronto- based biennial summer festival of contemporary dance. The not-for-profit festival was founded in 2000 by Artistic Director, Yvonne Ng and princess productions.
d:mic/fac Festival fills a mid-market niche by presenting culturally diverse, independent dance artists, from established to emerging and from across Canada. Because of its multidisciplinary nature, the festival is a popular choice for both seasoned art aficionados and new dance and dance on film and video audiences.
We are looking to program short (5 – 30 minutes) dance films, videos and documentaries that address the intersections of movement and media. Our preference is for newer films, produced in 2023 and 2024. Please note that we cannot offer feedback on submitted films, and only the selected applicants will be contacted. Complete film programming for the d:mic/fac Festival will be announced in June 2025.
While d:mic/fac Festival is foremost a live performance festival, its Arts Encounters programming, including the screening of dance films, has enjoyed increasing patronage over the last 10 years. The tickets for screenings at the Carlton Cinema will be on a sliding scale, while the online screenings will be free with registration.
This year, films will have 1 live in-person screening at the Carlton Cinema, and 3 online screenings, which are available for a limited time. Applicants will be selected to be a part of one of these programming events.
