POSITION OVERVIEW
Tarragon Theatre is currently seeking a proactive and highly motivated individual to join our team and lead the Marketing and Communications Department. Reporting to the Executive and Artistic Directors, the Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive marketing and communication strategies to achieve organizational objectives and reach annual sales targets. This role involves overseeing all aspects of marketing and communication campaigns/strategies, and supervises the work of a Marketing Coordinator, Publicist, Graphics, Videographer, and Photographer.

HOURS OF WORK
40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday 9:30 – 5:30PM
Some evening and weekend hours will be required.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Providing departmental leadership including contracting, hiring, and supervision;
- Works as a member of senior management staff to help set long term objectives in keeping with the company’s mission and mandate;
- Develops and oversees the creation and implementation of integrated marketing and communication plans to achieve annual goals established by Tarragon Theatre;
- Planning, purchasing, scheduling, designing, and executing the advertising plan for all programmatic activities and of the Tarragon brand;
- Creating an overall communications and marketing calendar for the year;
- Working in partnership with the graphic designer to create all annual creative materials in relation to marketing and communications;
- Working with the Publicist to execute and oversee all media for productions, other programmatic activities, and the organization as a whole, telemarketing campaigns, group sales initiatives, and special marketing events;
- Liaising with Tarragon’s production and community partners relating to aligned marketing and communication strategies;
- Manage and oversee the workflow of the Marketing & Communications Coordinator;
- Strategize and implement audience development initiatives;
- Writing and creating persuasive press releases, newsletters, other communications;
- Seeks and negotiates media sponsorship and media buys;
- Creating and implementing all digital marketing in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications Coordinator;
- Oversees the effective operation of the company’s website and analytics;
- Evaluating the results of marketing initiatives, and report findings to leadership;
- Researches and analyses sales data, marketing trends, new promotional techniques and processes;
- Develops and manages departmental budgeting in consultation with the Executive Director, and is responsible for reaching all relevant ticket revenue targets;
- Drive the Tarragon brand through marketing and promotional campaigns;
- Ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable contractual obligations, including recognition of government funders, sponsors and donors.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 5 years marketing experience in a comparable role in an arts-related, not-for-profit organization, and 3 years of management experience;
- Extensive knowledge of marketing, communications, and audience development;
- Extensive knowledge of selling/marketing subscription campaigns, as well as single ticket (i.e. understanding the needs of season campaigns vs production campaigns);
- Extensive knowledge of and experience in the performing arts, experience with theatre is an asset;
- Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to work with a variety of individuals and teams across all levels of the organization;
- Meticulous project and budget management skills;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills;
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills, tact, diplomacy, the ability to clearly and effectively disseminate marketing strategies and campaigns;
- Computing skills in MS Office (Teams)
- A strong team-player approach with willingness to be flexible and pitch-in where needed;
