Apply to Fat Fables, build community, tell your own stories and perform at SummerWorks!
Fat Fables is a performance creation program for Fat 2sLGBTQIA+ folks age 18-29.
From March to August, the participants work together with a team of professional directors and other guest artists to create and devise performance pieces that will be presented at the 2025 Summerworks Performance Festival. The program will happen in two parts.
Part One: Creation!
Participants will meet weekly for 9 weeks, working together to create and devise a full-length performance. This phase will be focused on creating work, learning new performance skills and dramaturgy. Each week will start with a shared meal, followed by writing exercises or guest artist workshops. Participants will be paid an honorarium and ttc fare will be provided each week.
Part Two: Performance!
At the end of the Creation portion of the program, participants will participate in shaping the performance through dramaturgy workshops in June and then longer, more regular rehearsals throughout July. In August, the participants will present their performance at The Summerworks Performance Festival, which runs from August 7-17th, 2025. This part of the program focuses on performance skills, exploring staging and incorporating design elements. During the Summerworks Festival, participants will share a community meal with the broader theatre community and engage in dialogue around the importance of Fat 2sLGBTQIA+ spaces and community.
