TO Live’s Operations department is currently accepting applications for a Handyperson. This is a 6-month full time contract. This position is required to work onsite at our North York venue, the Meridian Arts Centre with occasional work at other TO Live locations
This is a unionized position for an experienced and outgoing team player who will deliver exceptional service. The successful candidate will be required to join Unifor Local 2003E.
This position reports to the Director of Facilities and the Facility Manager /or their designate. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following duties.
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform maintenance and light repairs within the interior and exterior of the building
- Drywall installation and repairs
- Moving heavy furniture and equipment
- Driving snowplow, trucks or vans with supplies to work sites.
- Gardening and landscaping related activities
- Change light bulbs
- Paint, fill gaps and crevices or otherwise repair on building surfaces
- Undertake light installation or carpentry
- Hang bulletin boards, pictures, etc., on walls
- Door and door hardware installation and repair
- Repair small equipment or minor appliances
- Assemble and repair of fixtures, furniture and general hardware
- Checking inventory and ordering supplies when needed
- Installation of IT and other low voltage cable
- Assist building operators & other skilled tradespersons with electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other building systems when assigned
- Other facility and space related duties and required
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Proven experience as a handyperson
- Experience with hardware and power tools
- Knowledge of basic math and geometry
- Good verbal & written communication ability
- Well-organized and apt in problem-solving
- Attention to detail
- Computer and smart phone literate
- High school diploma or equivalent
- The candidates must be able to lift and carry heavy objects and work off a ladder
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Occasional flexibility in hours and schedules and may include work on nights and weekends as required
- Lack of natural light in workplace
- Climbing ladders and going into crawlspaces as needed
- Working primarily at Meridian Arts Centre but might occasionally deployed to work at other TO Live locations
- Travel between our three TO Live locations is required
