Centre for Indigenous Theatre
The Centre for Indigenous Theatre is the only school of its kind in Canada. Our three & four-year full-time conservatory-style, post-secondary training prioritizes Indigenous culture; foregrounding the Indigenous theatre canon and prioritizing Indigenous knowledge, culture, language, values and practices. Students graduate with a solid understanding of western and indigenous traditions.
We are Indigenous-led for Indigenous students.
We have five key components enabling students to acquire and refine skills incrementally through: core classes, specialized workshops, independent creation based on story weaving technique, mentorship, and performance. The curriculum integrates training in acting, voice and movement with Indigenous cultural classes in dance, song, story-weaving and oral history. It also offers a professional development component, allowing students and working actors to train together, adding the all-important mentoring element to the curriculum.
We seek to train you, the future Indigenous artist, to become tomorrow’s inspired and passionate Indigenous voice.
