Avery Jean Brennan (she/her) is a playwright, composer, lyricist, music director, actor, and educator residing in the GTA. She is a graduate of The Canadian College of Performing Arts (CCPA), the Canadian Musical Theatre Writers Collective, and a current participant of The Musical Stage Company’s Noteworthy program. Most recently, she completed a residency at Neptune Theatre through the Chrysalis Project for emerging artists as an assistant music director and musical theatre writer. After spending a year as Artistic Director Intern at the CCPA, she moved on to study under playwright/dramaturge Christopher Weddell, and composer/lyricist Leslie Arden. As an educator, she facilitates a workshop series for businesses & arts teachers to promote and support gender diversity in the workplace and classroom, originally developed for Young People’s Theatre. Her most recent writing, The Pansy Craze: A New Musical, premiered in 2018 at the Toronto Fringe, where it was the recipient of Gay Theatre Toronto’s LGBTQ Fringe Award for pushing the boundaries of LGBTQ characters and themes on stage. She is currently working as a mentor for the Artists Mentoring Youth (AMY) Project, and freelance vocal coach & writing teacher in the GTA.
