Jewelle Blackman is a Canadian actor, singer-songwriter, violinist, and playwright. Jewelle made her Broadway debut in 2019 in the Tony & Grammy Award winning Best Musical “HADESTOWN” where she originated the role of “Fate” and most recently starred as “Persephone”. Selected theatre credits include the OBC of HADESTOWN and the Canadian companies of HADESTOWN; THE LION KING; WE WILL ROCK YOU; CAROLINE OR CHANGE; DREAMGIRLS; CROWNS and three seasons at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Television: “The Coroner”, Kim’s Convenience”, “Frankie Drake.” Film: “Nine Lives” and “Crossword Mysteries.” Jewelle along with her co-writer Chantal Forde is the recipient of the Adams Prize For Musical Theatre for her Soca-Musical “BoyBoy and the Magic Drum” for the 2024 Toronto Fringe Festival, where it will have its world premiere along with Jewelle’s latest original musical ROOTED: A MUSICAL POEM. She is also the recipient of the Aubrey & Marla Dan Award For New Musicals and is developing her musical “TAR” with her collaborator Meghan Swaby with the support of The Musical Stage Company.
