Lucy Rupert is a dancer, choreographer, art-science researcher, and artistic director of Blue Ceiling dance, through which she has created and produced over two dozen works of contemporary dance and multidisciplinary performance. For the last decade, Lucy has been researching and exploring the intimate connection between scientific and artistic processes through interviews, lab visits, Art+Science events and artistic creations that celebrate the mystery and curiosity inherent in these disciplines. 

Lucy’s choreography has been presented by dance:made in Canada/fait au Canada festival, Dusk Dances, DanceWorks, DanceOntario, Guelph Dance Festival, the Stuttgart International Solo Tanz-Theatre Festival, The Registry Theatre, SpringWorks Festival Stratford, Festivalissimo Montreal, as well as in gallery spaces, schools and the High Park Nature Centre, where Lucy created an environmental-themed work including a pre-show hike led by Nature Centre staff.

As a performer, Lucy has been called “one of Toronto’s best dancers” and “an orchid among forget-me-nots”. She has performed with noted Canadian performance companies such as Fujiwara Dance Inventions (2010-present), Theatre Rusticle (2001-2017), Nova Dance, Theatre Passe Muraille, Puppetmongers Theatre, Circus Orange, Chartier Danse, Anandam Dance, Sashar Zarif Dance and many independent choreographers.  

Lucy has been nominated twice for the KM Hunter award in dance and was shortlisted for the inaugural Johanna Metcalf Performing Arts Awards in 2019. Lucy has a BA in Dance and Music (University of Waterloo) and an MA in History (University of Toronto) and is currently studying philosophy through Oxford University.
