The Opportunity: Studio 180 Theatre is seeking new volunteer directors to join its Board of Directors.
Studio 180 Theatre is a professional Toronto-based, not-for profit arts organization, committed to engaging, provoking and entertaining through theatre that sparks compelling conversations onstage, in the classroom, and in the community.
Over the past 22 years, Studio 180 has produced evocative and engaging theatre such as The Laramie Project, the Arab-Israeli Cookbook, Stuff Happens, The Normal Heart, Clybourne Park, Oslo, Sweat, and Indecent. Studio 180 productions have often been presented in partnership with Toronto based theatres such as Mirvish, CanStage, Tarragon, Crows Theatre, and Buddies in Bad Times. Complementing our mainstage productions, Studio180 provides engagement beyond the stage with Studio 180 In Development, and In Class, our highly successful theatre workshop program for secondary school students.
The company is governed by an enthusiastic and experienced volunteer Board of Directors who are responsible for ensuring a safe and respectful work environment for all staff and artists, fiscal responsibility and accountability to all funders and supporters. as well as being advocates for Studio 180 productions and activities. The Board of Directors supports the company’s mission and works collaboratively with staff to ensure that the organization operates successfully and reaches its full potential.
We are currently seeking to fill vacancies on our Board of Directors and welcome new applicants.
Director Responsibilities:
- Commit to an initial three (3) year term
- Attend a majority of Board meetings and participate knowledgeably in deliberations
- Actively participate on at least one Board Committee (Strategic Planning, Fundraising, Finance, Human Resources)
- Promote and advocate for Studio 180 productions and activities to peers, colleagues and personal contacts
- Attend and support most Studio 180 productions and activities, including artists talks, In Development and Studio 180 Reads.
- Support fundraising efforts, including participation in Board Volunteer activities
- Contribute and participate in the growth and on-going success of the organization including through annual donations – according to capacity.
- Participate respectfully in an environment that supports equity, diversity and inclusivity.
Director Qualifications
- An interest in and/or experience with the performing arts
- Comfort with collaborative work environments that welcome diverse viewpoints and perspectives
- Professional, executive or leadership experience in business, government, philanthropy, or the not-for-profit sector.
- Skills and experience in one of the following will be seen as an asset: Finance. Human Resources, Legal.
