Logline: Seventeen-year-old, bipolar Briar Fraser tries to claw her way out of a peaking manic episode, by demanding the support from the people that are supposed to help her cope.
Character Breakdown:
Briar Fraser: Female, Caucasian, 17. A post-punk beauty, long hair, pale skin, dark circles of makeup around her eyes. She suffers from bipolar disorder. An original thinker, she is often targeted for being different despite trying several different schools. She wants to have t h e m e n t a l h e a l t h conversation. She wants people to really LISTEN and accept her for who she is. We will love her.
Mysterious Priestess: Female, Caucasian, 17-19. She is Briar’s best friend, a bipolar manifestation. An exaggerated version of Briar’s style, veering into a hippy- Goth, Harley Quinn vibe with tattoos and coloured streaks in her hair. The Priestess is Briar’s ally, she will help to reveal BRIAR’s soul.
Jesse Daniels: MALE, CAUCASIAN/MIXED RACE 16-18 A hoodie-wearing stoner with tattoos. He coasts through class so he can hang out with Briar. When things get rough Jesse tries to defend Briar but proves to be more of a trigger than a support.
Carolina Perez: FEMALE, LATINA 16–17-YEAR-OLD An over-achiever who wants to rule the school, she conforms to standards of beauty, gender and social life. Pushed by her parents, she’s selfish, and entitled. Privately, she has fears fueled by anxiety about her sexuality, pretty enough, even likeable enough.
Ryan Taylor: MALE, BLACK, 17-18-year-old, 17, an intelligent, conservative teenager uncertain of where he belongs.
