To the Toronto performing arts community,
In August, TAPA announced changes to the award categories for the 2026–27 Dora Mavor Moore Awards, combining the design awards and the performance awards within each division. Since then, we have heard from many of you: artistic directors, designers, performers, producers, and members representing every award division, as well as the Associated Designers of Canada and IATSE Local ADC659.
We have heard your concerns and recognize the importance of listening to the community the Doras exist to serve. With the full support from the TAPA Board, the P.A.I.S. Toronto Board, which governs the Dora Awards, has decided to pause the proposed changes. The 2026–27 Doras will be presented with the previous category structure, with no changes to design or performance awards in each division.
Beginning in the new year, P.A.I.S. Toronto and TAPA will lead a formal review of the Dora Awards, open to all members and to the artists the awards celebrate.
Additional details will be shared at the TAPA Annual General Meeting on November 23. As with past reviews, there will be a number of opportunities for members to actively participate in the conversation and process.
The Dora Mavor Moore Awards belong to the Toronto professional performing arts community. The strength and passion of your responses to the proposed changes are proof of how much they mean to you. We are committed to creating meaningful opportunities for this community to help shape the future of the Doras and look forward to celebrating the rest of the 2026–27 season with you.
Sincerely,
Indrit Kasapi
Interim President, Board of Directors, Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts
Chris Goddard
President, Board of Directors, P.A.I.S. Toronto
