Silver Ticket Award: Pat Bradley
At the 42nd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards Show Ceremony on September 19, 2022, it was presented to the established arts administrator, educator, advocate and mentor, Pat Bradley. Bradley has been an icon of arts leadership, playing an instrumental role in instigating spaces for art, advocacy and change for over 35 years.
Pauline McGibbon Award: Monica Lee
Monica graduated from Humber College’s Theatre Arts – Technical Production program in 2016. Since then, she has been working as a props builder and head of props in both theatre and film. This includes credits with Obsidian Theatre Company, The Musical Stage Company, Mirvish Productions, Studio 180 Theatre, Canadian Stage, Factory Theatre and more. Recently, Monica has been focusing on combining her years of prop-building experience with new technology to build specialized costumes and fabricate textiles. This has led to work as a special effects costume builder on series such as Star Trek: Discovery (seasons 4 and 5) and Beacon 23.
Leonard McHardy & John Harvey Award: Rebecca Burton
Ms.Burton is a tireless champion of Canadian playwrights through her work as the Membership and Professional Contracts Manager with the Playwrights Guild of Canada and through past projects like Equity in Theatre (2014–2017), PLEDGE, SureFire, and more. Ms. Burton also works as an educator, feminist theatre practitioner, and researcher. She authored the benchmark report, Adding It Up: The Status of Women in Canadian Theatre (2006), which was published in various industry journals. With an established track record for championing women in the arts and equality practices, Ms. Burton has been an integral part of advancing Canadian Theatre.
Victor C. Polley Protégé Award: Idil Djafer
With over four years of arts administration experience, Ms. Djafer worked closely with Ms. Burton at the Playwrights Guild of Canada and currently is the Executive Assistant to Weyni Mengesha, Artistic Director of Soulpepper Theatre Company. In addition to her administrative role, Ms. Djafer is a multidisciplinary conceptual artist focusing on racial, religious and feminist issues.
George Luscombe Mentorship Award: Karen Kaeja
Ms. Kaeja is the Co-Artistic Director of renowned dance company Kaeja d’Dance, and is an award-winning performer, choreographer, educator, community builder and project instigator. With over 30 years of gracing the stage, Kaeja has a remarkable track record of mentorship and has demonstrated her ability to challenge and nurture future generations of young dancers. She empowers her mentees and holds space for agency and individuality, which results in poignant work that resonates with the artists as well as enthralling audiences.
Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award: Alice In Wonderland
The TAPA Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award for Outstanding Production, in honour of the beloved, long-time theatre critic Jon Kaplan and supported by Destination Toronto, was given out at the ceremony and selected by the general public. Presented with a commemorative plaque, the Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award winner is Alice in Wonderland, Guild Festival Theatre.
