Are you someone who feels unsupported by Canada’s art institutions? Someone who has been affected by the systemic issues that permeate the arts, all while continuing to push for your own projects to be funded? Or do you know of an artist, performer, or leader in your community who reflects the diverse and resilient spirit of the arts?

We invite interested individuals to apply to the Majdi Bou-Matar Bursary.

Now in its second year, this bursary was named after the visionary founder of MT Space, who overcame adversity and dedicated his life to amplifying the voices of racialized and marginalized communities through theatre and art. Its purpose is to aid individuals who aspire to address these challenges.

The Majdi Bou-Matar Bursary offers $5,000 plus a year-long mentorship with MT Space shaped around the needs of the individual recipient.

This bursary is open to Racialized (newcomer, immigrant, refugee) and Indigenous creators, performers, leaders, and administrators who are either emerging in their craft or in their career in the Canadian performing arts sector.

The recipient must be willing to commute to MT Space in the Waterloo Region so that the mentorship can be experienced to its fullest potential.

Eligible applicants must be:

  • Racialized (newcomer, immigrant, refugee) and/or Indigenous;
  • A creator, performer, arts leader or administrator;
  • Who are emerging in their craft or their career in the Canadian performing arts sector;
  • And willing to commute for inperson mentorship at MT Space (16 William Street, Waterloo, ON)

The deadline to submit is August 30th at 11:59 pm EST.

If you need any translation, assistance with filling out the form, or have any questions about the application process, contact us at info@mtspace.ca or 519 585 7763. Thank you!
