CanAsian Dance is seeking to hire an Administrative & Marketing Assistant

The assistant role entails such responsibilities as: 

-Administrative and operational assistance to the General Manager

-Marketing and communications, ie Social Media Campaigns, e-newsletter

-Production assistance of CAD programs

 The Administrative & Marketing assistant will be working mainly with CanAsian Dance staff  (Artistic Lead, General Manager, Curatorial Committee), and on occasion contractors and programmed artists

Hours: 8 hours (1  day per week)  

Fee:  $9,792 for a 12-month contract ($25.50 per hour). (Note: Subject to funding, we either extend this contract or establish this position as a permanent role.)

Works collaboratively with the Curatorial Committee (the Artistic Lead, General Manager, and three additional Curatorial Committee Members)

Reports to: General Manager

Location: The successful applicant will primarily work from home but should ideally be based in or near the Greater Toronto Area

APPLICATION DETAILS

Ideal candidate

  • A strong background in administration (at least 2 years), preferably in the arts and culture sector.

  • Excellent written communication and proficiency in proofreading.

  • Proficiency in digital marketing, including social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), website content management (Wix or similar), and e-news campaigns (MailChimp or similar).

  • Ability to conceptualize and execute visually appealing marketing materials and digital assets, with proficiency in graphic design software desirable.

  • Knowledge or experience in outreach to culturally diverse populations.

  • Experience in the arts and culture sector. (Dance or Performing arts would be an asset)

  • Maintains an organized and accurate filing system to facilitate timely responses and management of critical documents and actionable items.

Responsibilities

Administrative and operational

  • Support the General Manager in:

    • Maintaining administrative and operational databases, systems and processes, identifying and implementing feasible improvements.

    • Fielding general enquiries as required.

    • Maintaining an archive of all CanAsian Dance activities (photos, videos, marketing materials).

    • Upholding and updating CanAsian Dance’s policies and procedures and supporting the development of further articulations in response to a changing ecology. This includes instituting policies and procedures related to equity and accessibility.

    • Documenting and maintaining institutional knowledge of administrative and operational systems.

Marketing and development

  • Create and execute social media posts, e-newsletters, and other public-facing materials, in consultation with artists, CanAsian Dance staff, and relevant contractors.

  • Proofread marketing copy and other public-facing materials.

  • Engage with social media followers, consulting with artists, CanAsian Dance staff, and relevant contractors as required.

  • Monitor website, social media, and e-news analytics and report on uptake and trends as requested.

  • Support the CanAsian Dance staff and/or contractors in planning marketing and fundraising campaigns.

Production 

  • Assist CanAsian Dance staff in communicating scheduling and updates to artists.

  • Assist in planning and executing programs, currently in development.

Other 

Other duties as assigned by the General Manager may be requested.

Other conditions

  • You are responsible for all government taxes. This is a renewable contract position where taxes are not deducted.

  • If you charge HST and provide an HST number, it will be added to your fee.

  • You will participate in an annual performance appraisal by the Artistic Lead and General Manager.

We centre the Asian diaspora dance community. The Asian diaspora encompasses the whole continent of Asia, including South, East, Southeast, West, and Central Asian countries, as well as the surrounding Pacific Islands.

Public programming that focuses on audience and community development to continue developing diverse conversations and familiarization with and appreciation of artists of the Asian diaspora and their work and processes.

CanAsian Dance is situated in Tkaronto, a Mohawk word meaning “the place in the water where the trees are standing.” It is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, and it continues to be the home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. This land is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississauga and Chippewa bands. We also acknowledge that this land is under the Dish with One Spoon covenant, an agreement between the Anishinaabeg and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. This land is a dish to be shared and cared for and we all share one spoon; the spoon is to be used to take only what is needed and to leave enough for others, thus ensuring a viable and abundant future. We recognize the enduring resilience of Indigenous peoples and we acknowledge that we are accountable to these relationships and these agreements.

Today, Tkaronto is home to many peoples: Indigenous, settlers, immigrants, and newcomers. We acknowledge and pay respects to our ancestors of Asian origin and descent, who have been systemically devalued and exploited in the history of this land. We also acknowledge those who came to Canada forcibly, particularly as a result of the TransAtlantic Slave trade and accordingly, we honour and pay tribute to ancestors of African origin and descent.
